About Us

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20

San Fernando Valley Academy (SFVA) was established in 1902 and proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest private school in the San Fernando Valley. Rooted in the Seventh-day Adventist tradition, SFVA reflects the vision often expressed by Ellen G. White, who described Adventist schools as lights set upon a hill—places where faith, learning, and service shine brightly within their communities.

Founded initially as a technical school, SFVA transitioned into an elementary school in 1923 and proudly graduated its first high school class in 1961. Since that time, the academy has continued to serve students as both an elementary and high school, thoughtfully adapting to the changing educational landscape while remaining firmly anchored in its mission and values.

For more than a century, SFVA alumni have carried forward a legacy of academic excellence, Christian character, and purposeful service. As you explore historical photographs of the campus, you may recognize familiar buildings, landmarks, and traditions—visible reminders of a rich heritage that continues to shape students today. SFVA remains a shining presence in the San Fernando Valley, committed to excellence, faith, and service for generations past, present, and future.

As part of the Seventh-day Adventist educational system, SFVA’s mission is two-fold: to be a Christian light within the community and to prepare students for higher education and life as productive, service-minded citizens. SFVA believes education extends beyond high school, viewing the secondary years as a critical stepping stone toward higher learning. As a college-preparatory school, SFVA has prepared hundreds of students for careers in fields such as medicine, education, business, engineering, and law.

We are so happy that you have decided to take a look at our website. That means that you have interest in our school or perhaps are already involved in our school. Either way, whether you are searching for a school or you are already a member of our family, we hope that you feel welcome.

SFVA is a Seventh-day Adventist Christian school that has a proud tradition of not only being a college prep institution, but also a place where any person of any age should feel comfortable in our family atmosphere. We believe what Jesus taught: To love others as we'd want to be loved.

The teacher/student ratio is low at this school. This means that each student gets ample time with the teachers. Students are not just a seat filler at SFVA. They are each individuals created for a higher purpose and each teacher spends additional time outside the normal classroom hours helping to develop the young minds for life in college and beyond.

If you have not visited our campus yet, please do so. Our campus has been here many years, so it may not shine with glitz, but the hearts that educate the students here are dedicated and committed to developing academically superior, world-prepared and Christ-filled students. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Chris Ebenezer,
Principal
